Term Three

Term Three

Maths:  During Term 3 Euroa will be continuing with Resolve lessons that relate to multiplication. The goal is to improve students multiplicative thinking and extend their understanding of mathematical concepts through hands on experiences of inquiry. If you attended ‘Education Day’ on Friday week 3 then you might have sat through your first ‘numbertalk.’ During Number talks students are presented with 1 question and they attempt to solve it in a variety of ways. Students share their strategy for solving the problem with each other and if selected get to share their thinking with the class. The primary focus is to enhance students understanding through reasoning and communication whilst witnessing how others think. Number talks will be held as an introduction to every maths lesson and their content will coincide with topic area or will be tailored to areas of specific need.

Reading: This term reading has been integrated to our informative writing. The primary goal this term is to have students summarise key information gathered from texts into VIPs (very important points). Another focus is navigating through texts using key features such as a contents page, glossary and subheadings to find information efficiently. Euroa is also reading “The Wild Robot” which closely links to our Geography unit. The novel explores a robot and her journey to survive on an Island. Her only chance of survival is to learn the land by observing the native animals that inhabit it.

Writing: The focus of this term is to create informative texts that have been written for a specific audience. In the first half of the term, Euroa will be creating texts for Kindergarten and exploring how to adapt their facts in order to an cater to a junior audience. How to successfully edit writing will be explicitly taught and students will be expected to make adjustments that enhance the desired purpose.

Geography: Australia is a beautiful place with many regions full of rare and unique plants and animals. During term 3 Euroa will explore The Kosciuszko National Park. Some of the big questions that will drive the unit are? “Who value the National Park and how do people’s views of this location effect the environment?” The unit will cover where the Park is located geographically, activities that can be done inside the park, animals and plants that are found in the region and how the park is being conserved for future generations.

PDHPE: Last term was a Gymnastics program and this term will be Basketball program. From weeks 5-10 students in Euroa will be focusing on passing, dribbling, catching and shooting using the correct techniques. Fitness drills will also be completed every morning from 9-9.20am to improve concentration and practice movement skills in-between sessions.
