Preparing for Kindergarten
What you can do to help your child before starting school?
- Opening lunchboxes and drink bottles
- Using the toilet independently
- Read lots of picture books
- Talk to your child
- “Serve and return”
- Play games using rhyme, alliteration and speech sounds
- Sing songs – especially nursery rhymes
- Counting objects
- Identifying shapes and patterns
- Measuring out ingredients when cooking or baking
- Guessing how many scoops of sand will fill the bucket at the beach
- In the car, asking your child to read the numbers on the numberplates
